ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ARMY DENTAL CORPS ASSOCIATION INC.
COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE DEDICATION CERMONY
AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL – Canberra
Thursday 21 October 2010
On a lovely late Spring afternoon, I was pleased and honoured to attend the Plaque Dedication Ceremony held in Canberra on 21 October this year and to represent the RAADC Association on the occasion.
The assembled group of present and past members and guests were welcomed to the event by MAJGEN Steve Gower (Ret’d), AO, AO (Mil), Director of the AWM.
The Senior Chaplain at Army HQ, Chaplain Catie Inches-Ogden, performed the prayers and the dedication and blessing of the plaque. Yes, a lady Chaplain.
The HOC, LTCOL Genevieve Constantine made a commemorative address, which I have published below. It is truly a very comprehensive and concise account of the history of the RAADC and one that took the interest of many, including Corps members.
The plaque was located on a pedestal and unveiled by COL Viv Bird (Ret’d) and Corps RSM, WO1 Kym Chiesa, CSM.
After the unveiling, WO1 Chiesa recited The Ode.
CPL Mathew Creek, bugler of the Band of the Royal Military College then played the Last Post, beautifully.
To conclude, the Colonel-Commandant, COL Stephen Curry thanked all those involved in arranging for the plaque and the ceremony of dedication and fare welled those in attendance
We all the adjourned to the cafeteria for coffee and cake.
The plaque will be installed on the eastern side of the main building of the AWM and we will advise members when this has occurred and exactly where you all can find it on your future visits to the Nation’s capital.
